Dry cleaning pickup & delivery in Los Altos

"I was going to the same walk-in dry cleaner for nearly 20 years-- it used to be just the most convenient location, then it became habit, and finally it was due to the personal relationship I'd developed with them. I just didnt notice how much the service quality was slipping-- my clothes wouldnt be ready on time, and I'd recieve not even a word of apology. Stuff would come back with spots, and I'd have to be very pushy to get it redone. And so on.

I finally hit my breaking point when a pair of pants didnt get done when promised, and my cleaner expected me to make another trip to pick it up. Hey, things happen, right? But, were it your dry cleaning establishment, wouldnt you offer to at least waive the cleaning fee to make up for the second trip?

But enough about why I left my old place. I'd seen Purple Tie's trucks in front of my office for years, and observed their pick-up spots at several clients' offices. My company was way too small to arrange for such a service, so I never gave it much thought.

Turns out, they do home pick up and delivery, too!

I log onto their website, arrange a pickup date, leave my clothes in a Purple Tie bag on my front door, and two days later, everything is back, carefully hung in whatever creative spot by my front door they can find (once, they tied it to a beam above my front step, and the clothes appeared to be suspended in the air right outside my front door. Freaked my kid out!). The service is reliable, and my clothes look great. I would give them only mediocre grades on shoe-shines, but I'd rather have them do an adequate job on this than do it myself! Everything else is done quite well-- at least as good as my old cleaner, and usually better.

I'm not the most aggressive price-shopper, but I think that Purple Tie is very comparable to my old place (probably exactly the same, but I'm not 100% sure on that). Factor in the time savings, and its a no-brainer for me!

I dont know how wide their home delivery service is spread, but they definitely do Mtn View and I'd assume most of the Peninsula. Worth a look...

***EDIT-- You know, I dont think that the shoeshine was only mediocre. My shoes are old and trashed, which is probably why I like 'em so much. A shoeshine can only do so much. Lipstick, Pig- you know...

*** ANOTHER EDIT-- in case you think that you're missing out on "personal" service with a service like this, read this: In a recent order, Purple Tie screwed something up (I asked to have a hole in a pocket sewn. They didnt do it, but I got charged). I sent an email to alert them to the problem, and I got a very rapid response, huge apologies and so on. They asked me to put a note on my next order to the attention of their customer service guy to flag my order to get double checked. All good. Hey, everybody makes an occasional error, especially in a high volume business. I always take note of how people DEAL WITH the errors, and Purple Tie did it right."
